Amanda became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in the Spring of 2006, while attending the University of Alabama. The following semester, Antjuan joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Their paths crossed often, and they became friends, but neither would have guessed that they would eventually fall in love and plan to build a life together.

It wasn’t until the Spring of 2013, many years after both had graduated and moved away from their little college town, that they ran into one another and decided to exchange information. Their brief conversation on that Friday night led to frequent messages and phone calls and eventually to a long distance relationship. Six months later, Antjuan relocated to Birmingham and the two have been inseparable since.

When it was time to start planning their wedding, they knew they wanted something chic, yet classic, and that having a good time with their loved ones at their reception was a priority. To save money, they opted to plan the wedding themselves and purchased a lot of their details on Amazon.com. Amanda’s best tip for brides planning their day is to not stress and to hire amazing vendors, so that you know can rest easy, knowing you’re in good hands. She warns that it’s easy to get lost in the details, but that you have to remember the purpose of the day — to marry the love of your life.

During Amanda and Antjuan’s engagement session, we went exploring and found this rocky nook at Vulcan and affectionately named it “our spot.” On the wedding day, we knew we had to go back and capture more images in the same spot. Because the two had a first look, we were able to take that time to capture these amazing portraits.

I loved Amanda’s bouquet. Ricky Whitely hand painted leaves rose gold, to create a unique look for her.
